ASUU warns Niger Govt against attempt to seize FUTMinna Bosso Campus
The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Federal University of Technology, Minna, FUTMinna, has accused the Niger State Government of attempting to seize the university’s Bosso Campus, describing the move as “desperate and illegal”.
Prof. Luqman Kunle Oyewobi, ASUU FUTMinna chairperson, made the allegation in a statement on Monday.
“The Bosso Campus is not an expendable parcel of land to be appropriated for political expediency.
“It is our academic workspace, research and learning environment, and our home,” the statement said.
The FUT ASUU chairperson stressed that the Bosso Campus has been a permanent property of the university since 1983, when the Federal Government fully paid the Niger State Government for the property.
He warned that any takeover would disrupt teaching, research, student services, and community engagement.
“Claims that the Bosso Campus was leased temporarily are factually incorrect and historically misleading,” the union added.
The statement urged the Federal Government, National Assembly, and National Universities Commission, NUC, to intervene and reaffirm the federal ownership of all FUTMinna properties.
The union also called on the Niger State Government to exercise restraint and pursue dialogue rather than unilateral action.
ASUU also reaffirmed its commitment to defending the integrity, autonomy, and assets of FUTMinna, while pledging to pursue all lawful channels to ensure the Bosso Campus remains under federal control.
